A Guide to Timelines for Custom Handmade Pieces

There is something truly special about having a piece of jewellery made just for you. A bespoke creation is more than an accessory; it is a reflection of your story, carefully designed and meticulously crafted to last generations. If you are considering commissioning a custom piece from me, here is a guide to help you understand the timeline involved and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Ready-to-Wear Pieces (1–2 Weeks)

For those looking for something special without the wait, I offer a selection of ready-to-wear pieces. These can be shipped within 1–2 weeks, ensuring you receive your jewellery in a timely manner.

Step 1: Initial Consultation (1–2 Weeks)

The journey begins with a conversation. Whether in person, over the phone, or via email, we will discuss your vision, inspirations, preferred materials, and budget. If you have sentimental gemstones or heirloom pieces you’d like to incorporate, this is the time to share them. I will sketch initial concepts and provide guidance on design possibilities.

Step 2: Design Development & Approval (1-2 Weeks)

Once we have established the direction, I will refine the design, ensuring it aligns with your aesthetic and functional preferences. This stage may involve detailed sketches or digital renderings to help you visualize the final piece. Adjustments can be made until you are completely satisfied. A fee may be charged for multiple design renderings as they take time to complete. Once the design is approved, I will provide a final quote and invoice for a 50% deposit to begin manufacturing.

Step 3: Sourcing Materials & Preparation (2–4 Weeks)

Ethically sourced gemstones and metals are at the heart of my work. Depending on the complexity of the design and the uniqueness of the materials required, sourcing can take a couple of weeks. If we are repurposing existing jewellery, I will carefully dismantle and assess each element before preparing them for their new form.

Step 4: Handmaking Your Jewellery (4–6 Weeks)

Once the deposit has been paid, the manufacturing process typically takes 4–6 weeks. During this time, I meticulously hand-forge, engrave, and set the stones, bringing the design to life. The time required depends on the complexity of the piece—elaborate settings, intricate engravings, and heirloom restorations naturally take longer to perfect. I ensure every detail meets my highest standards.

Step 5: Final Touches & Quality Assurance (1–2 Weeks)

Once the piece is complete, it undergoes thorough polishing, engraving (if applicable), and quality checks. I take great care to ensure your jewellery meets both my craftsmanship standards and your expectations. If needed, minor refinements will be made before the piece is ready for collection or delivery.

Step 6: Collection & Aftercare Guidance

Your bespoke piece is now ready! Whether you choose to pick it up in person or have it securely shipped, I will provide detailed care instructions to help you maintain its beauty for years to come. I also offer aftercare services, such as polishing and maintenance, to keep your jewellery looking its best.

Total Timeline Estimate: 6–12 Weeks for Custom Pieces

From concept to completion, a bespoke jewellery piece typically takes between 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the design stage and the sourcing of stones. As I often work on several pieces simultaneously, if you have a particular date in mind, I will do my best to accommodate your timeline. Please let me know at the first consultation so we can plan accordingly.
